I’m trying to get the house fixed up and cleaned up; instead, I’m getting fed up with how long it’s taking. Today I worked on repairing damaged window frames. Yesterday I scraped and sanded and patched. Today I scraped and sanded and patched some more, and then painted on a coat of primer. The results aren’t exactly picture-perfect, but it’s better than it was, and this frame is in a less-visible part of the house anyway.
Later the frames will be painted blue. I know I should have sanded the frames better, but a significant part of the frame will be covered by the flange of the window screen. And chances are that if or when the house sells, the new owner will replace these old, unsecure jalousie windows anyway, which will necessitate new frames, so there’s no point in expending too much time, effort, or material on things like this. The idea is to make the house look “taken care of,” not “remodeled.” In this case, the window frames now look “old,” not “rotten.”
In addition to working on the window frames, I replaced planks on the picnic table in the yard, sanded and shaped a patch I’m working on in the kitchen – that one needs to dry for another day before I work on it some more – and secured some loose bits and pieces around the house exterior and the yard. As soon as I’ve finished typing this post I plan to spend an hour or three working on my box decluttering project.
There’s so much to do, and I don’t have a totally clear idea of what I actually want to or need to get done. I have a list, of course – I made a checklist of repair projects to work on during these past three days, and I barely scratched the surface. There’s too much to do and not enough time. Or at least, I work too slowly and manage my time poorly.
On another note, and for the record, only one of the kitchen geckos died. There are other, bigger geckos still living in the kitchen. They’re not quite as tame or friendly as the recently deceased Baby Gecko, but they make regular appearances, staking out a territory around the bananas on the kitchen counter. We have taken to leaving one over-ripe banana around as the geckos seem to like ripe bananas.
